 Toxic Masculinity  Since a young age, men are told to act a specific way in our society. They are supposed to appear overly masculine and strong, and to not present any type of emotion. These expectations cause a great deal of harm. As men continue to uphold these standards, they unleash violence.  The documentary, "Tough Guise 2" does an amazing job in bringing to light the problems surrounding toxic masculinity. In our society, men are constantly told to hide their emotions and ac t tough, and that acting "feminine" or "soft" is a bad thing. From a very young age, these values are instilled into men. For example, the documentary explains that the biceps of G.I. Joe dolls have greatly increased, along with the size of superheroes. Along with that, advertisements, video games, sports, etc, show off the overly masculine stereotype and display an overabundance of violence. What So Proudly We Hailed

     What So Proudly We Hailed        The New Yorker is well-known magazine, containing the news, commentary, and criticism on hot topics in America. Most notably, this magazine features some sort of cartoon on each of its covers that usually spreads some sort of message or commentary. One cover that stood out to me was, ¨What So Proudly We Hailed" by Carter Goodrich. This cover gives an amazing take on the aftermath of 9/11.      In the cover,  a man appears to be driving a taxi cab. The cab is shown from the side angle, in order to get a good view of the man. Only his face and arms are visible, as it looks like the man is crouching in his seat, trying not to be seen. His hands are tightly gripping the steering wheel. His eyes are wide open with fear and eyebrows raised all the way up, as he stares right at the viewer of the picture. This man is visibly nervous and anxious.  10 Ways to Have a Better Conversation In this Ted Talk, radio host Celeste Headlee explains how to improve your conversations in 10 easy steps. These steps are truly eyeopening, and hopefully the people who watch this video (including me) actually implement these steps into their own conversations. There were a couple of steps in this video that really stood out to me: Go with the flow : I feel that I am guilty of this sometimes. An idea will pop into my head, and I really do not want to let go of it. This doesn't work in a conversation, as when you keep that idea in mind, you loose your focus on the person talking. This completely disrupts the flow of the conversation. It's important to know that it is okay to let go of that thought in order to preserve the conversation.  Don't equate your experiences with theirs : This one has always been a pet peeve of mine.
